In September—in part in response to requests from three different subscribers—I will begin a series of articles on Gnosticism and Modernity (and why, contrary to certain influential accounts of things, there is no connection or analogy between them). The articles will also, of necessity, deal with the relation between the so-called Gnostic communities of late antiquity and the early church.
I usually would not take requests, if only because I prefer yielding to sudden caprice; but this seems to be a topic in which there is considerable interest at the moment. And, as it happens, I have a novel—fantasy, oddly enough—based on the Gnostic “Hymn of the Pearl” coming out in December and it’s never too early to inaugurate an insidiously sly promotional campaign.
An Announcement
Exciting. Roland in Moonlight was wonderful. This new novel will be on my Christmas wishlist for sure. Are there any introductory books on Gnosticism you recommend?

1. who are some of the best scholars on Gnosticism that one should read, David? I know this can be pretty broad, but who would you recommend
2. You are writing a fantasy novel? that's awesome? is that going to be the cover art?
