To a conversation about sin
Absinthe (Nonidi), 9 Messidor, CCXXXIII
I recently had a conversation with Tony Golsby-Smith of Gospel Conversations on the issue of hamartia, and whether it might better be translated by some word other than ‘sin’. This led to a variety of other, related topics. His dulcet Australian tones and my drily mordant American rasping made for an attractive counterpoint, rather like a lark on a linden bough singing to the bulldog below, barking up at it from the roots of the tree. You might also find the conversation itself quite interesting. I did.

In your brother’s James commentary, I like the way he interprets sin as something like “straying or erring from the path”, as opposed to the traditional phrasing I’ve always heard as “missing the mark”. The former phrase seems more spiritual/theosis-flavored (Orthodox). The latter phrase seems more juridicial-flavored (Evangelical). I don’t know which phrase better hits the mark and stays on the path in terms of translation, but I do know which one helps me more spiritually.
It's been awesome getting so much audio and visual content lately!
