Three Links
Another installment in the conversation on Original Sin, a conversation about dragons and other seraphic fauna, and the new Roland volume
Marron (Nonidi), 29 Fructidor, CCXXXIII
1: Earlier, I provided a link to the first part of a discussion I had with Tony Golsby-Smith, the antipodean doyen of Gospel Conversations. Here, I am providing a link to the first half of the rest of our discussion. I hope that is not too tortuous a sentence. I thought it was a rich exchange, and the final part will arrive soon.
2: I was also the guest of Dominic de Souza, who invited me to discuss Kenogaia as well as such related topics as gnosticism, fairytales, the ‘imaginal’ realm, the realm of Faerie, dreams, and dragons and their discontents (in an age of diminished expectations). As, of course, I am a cheap date for anyone offering to talk about my fiction, I agreed without hesitation. The conversation that ensued was a delight for me. You can view it on the Substack page Dominic runs or on YouTube (linked below). I ask the pardon of John Masefield enthusiasts (there must be some out there) for a lapse of memory: at one point, I accidentally change the title of The Midnight Folk to “The Night People.” Mea maxima culpa.
3: A Roland Colonnade is near to its official release date, but is available for advance order even now. I think Angelico has done a beautiful job on the production, and the volume is a fitting tribute both from me and from Roland’s publisher to someone we all miss terribly. It completes the ‘Roland Chronicles’, as I shall of course not be writing any more in that line, now that Roland is not here for me to talk to; but perhaps his literary alter ego Rolandus may yet appear in another MacGorilla volume. One last note: I do get quite a lot of requests for pictures of Roland from readers of Roland in Moonlight, so as better to fix an image of him in their minds; so this new volume is something of a photo album as well. If you get a copy, do pause to look at him as you go along, as you will certainly glimpse the light of his wise spirit in his eyes.

What a refreshing video to see after five days of seeing nonstop defenses of Christian Nationalism and the seven mountain mandate on TikTok, YouTube, Instagram, etc.
Both conversations were great, but the one on fiction and dragons clearly made DBH feel 40 years younger and as giddy as a schoolboy. It’s obvious in which direction he should concentrate his creative efforts.
And we should definitely mention Falkor among the great dragons - an eastern-like dragon in a western fantasy setting.
